Channel 4’s reality gameshow The Circle is to move to Greater Manchester for its next series as it was confirmed that former Big Brother star Emma Willis would be taking over as presenter.

Studio Lambert North and Motion Content Group will once again be producing the popularity game, which will have an extended run and a weekly live show.

The first series, which saw contestant Alex Hobern win £75,000, was filmed in Middlesex. The new series will feature a top prize of £100,000.

The show bills itself as a game based around social media, with the concept that “anyone can be anyone in The Circle”.

Players live in separate apartments in a single building – the exact location is yet to be confirmed – and play games and chat with each other through The Circle. They rate each other frequently and unpopular players are blocked. Once blocked, and before leaving the show, the eliminated players will get to meet other players in person for the first time. Ultimately, the most popular player wins a cash prize of up to £100,000.

Willis, who presented Big Brother and Celebrity Big Brother from 2013 until the show’s final season in 2018, said: “I got hooked on the first series and thought it was a smart format that highlights how we shouldn’t take everything on social media at face value.”

Tim Harcourt, Studio Lambert’s Creative Director, said: “Emma brings charm, warmth and humour to all of her TV projects. She has a great passion for her shows which is why the audience love her. We’re thrilled to have her on The Circle.”

The Circle was commissioned by Channel 4 Deputy Director of Programmes Kelly Webb-Lamb and Factual Entertainment Commissioning Editor Gilly Greenslade. Executive producers for Studio Lambert will be Tim Harcourt, Darrell Olsen, Daisy Lilley, Susy Price and Toni Ireland. Martin Oxley will be executive producer for Motion Content Group.

The new series will air later this year.
