‘Edgy’ BBC radio ‘legend’ dies suddenly aged 76

A Yorkshire and Humberside radio legend has died aged 76.

Presenter, DJ and dad-of-three Tim Jibson passed away suddenly earlier this month surrounded by his family.

From 1972 onwards, Tim was presenter at BBC Radio Humberside, Viking FM, KCFM & Beverley FM, as well as running Adventures in Radio.

He is perhaps best known for Humberside’s The Paull Hunsley Electric Wireless Show.

He is survived by his wife Ann Marie and his children Michael, Paul and Lexi. He was also granddad to Flora, Rowan and Kaia.

One tribute on social media described Jibson as “a good friend to many”.

Another “devotee” on X described the presenter as a legend: “So sorry to hear that one of my childhood radio heroes Tim Jibson has passed away. I was a devotee of his edgy ‘Paull Hunsley Electric Wireless show’ on @RadioHumberside And he kindly offered my first invitation into a radio studio. RIP legend.”

Jibson’s obituary in the Hull Daily Mail invited mourners to leave donations for Martins House Children’s Hospice. It read: “Passed away suddenly but peacefully on Sunday 9th February 2025, aged 76 years, surrounded by his loving family, after the most wonderful day on holiday.

Devoted Husband to Ann Marie, Dad to Michael, Paul and Lexi. Grandad to Flora, Rowan and Kaia. Amazing Uncle to Charlotte, Lauren, Lee, Mike, Amber and Harmony. In law to Paul, Sue, Caroline and Leanne. A good friend to many. Reunited with missed family members, but most importantly Brenda and Rose, who he missed ever so dearly.

A private service and cremation is to be held by family request.

Special memories and donations may be left online, if you wish to pay your respects.”

Among Jibson’s many career highlights, he interviewed the likes of the late Marc Bolan – who fronted the band T. Rex – in 1976 and the late Tammy Wynette in 1981 whilst working at BBC Radio Humberside.

His surviving family includes his son Michael, an Olivier Award-winning actor for his role as King George III in the original West End cast of Hamilton. Michael has also appeared in TV shows such as ITV’s Quiz and Netflix’s Bodies, and films including Star Wars: The Last Jedi.
