A locally produced animation from Doodledo hopes to encourage support for people in Greater Manchester and Lancashire experiencing poverty, homelessness and isolation this Christmas.

The short film ‘Will you #BeeThere for someone this Christmas?’ Was created by Doodledo for Salford charity Caritas’ Salford Advent Appeal 2022, and has so far picked up over 2,000 views on YouTube.

The animation depicts a traditional Manchester bee who is sleeping rough in the city and his experiences as he reaches out for support. The charity’s Advent appeal is encouraging people to make a donation to help them to work alongside those facing acute crisis in the area over the festive season.

Doodledo and Caritas’ Christmas animation

Patrick O’Dowd, director of Caritas Salford, said: ““It’s outrageous that in 2022 so many people are facing the prospect of acute crisis. Christmas should be a time for family, friends and loved ones, but any of us could find ourselves in a situation we’d never imagined could happen.

“The animation shows this clearly – forced evictions, having to choose between eating or staying warm, facing a Christmas alone, or sleeping rough will be the reality for thousands of people in Greater Manchester and Lancashire this festive season. We’re hoping people who are in a position to be able to help will support the appeal so we can be there to help those who need us transform their lives with dignity.”

The charity runs a range of services supporting people from local communities who are isolated, disadvantaged or experiencing poverty and homelessness.

James Torry, founder of Doodledo, added: “We were honoured to support Caritas with their Christmas film. They gave us creative freedom to tell the story and we’re now just calling on everyone to BeeThere and donate if they possibly can!”
