In addition, since relocating from The Sharp Project to Castlefield last year, Doodledo has launched a dedicated post-production department headed by senior colourist Neill Jones. The business invested heavily in its post-production facilities, and the final winner’s film will be finished and colour graded using the suites, and Doodledo’s in-house team, free of charge.
James Torry, founder of Doodledo, said: “We’ve been on an amazing 15-year journey. We’re fortunate to work in the creative sector and we had this idea. What if, in the 15th year of our journey, we could help someone else start theirs? There’s lots of people with dreams about getting started, or switching paths, and often the blocker is a financial one. So we hope this bursary and use of our post-production facilities will kick start someone’s big idea.”
Submissions are invited by email, by 30th November, with a panel of judges interviewing shortlisted candidates and awarding the bursary in December. Production will start at the beginning of 2023.
Applicants should demonstrate a passion for film, and a competence to make their film achievable working alongside industry experts who will be on hand to workshop final scripts with winners and offer advice. Film applications submitted need to be under five minutes and can be any format including drama, comedy, music videos, spoken word or documentary.
The bursary follows other recent initiatives from Doodledo like the studio’s monthly freelancer breakfasts, designed to support and connect the creative community in Greater Manchester.
Applicants must be over 18 years of age, each applicant is limited to one submission, and entries should include a film synopsis/treatment and be emailed to info@doodledo.co.uk with the subject “Doodledo Bursary.” Full details can be found on Doodledo’s website, or via its socials.
