Margot James has quit the Government after voting for a plan to stop a “no deal” Brexit.
A vote took place this afternoon, in a bid to stop a new Prime Minister from suspending Parliament to force through “no deal.”
It was approved by a majority of 41, which included 17 Conservative MPs, who rebelled against the whip. 4 cabinet ministers, Rory Stewart, Greg Clark, Philip Hammond and David Gauke abstained.
James, one of the rebels resigned after the vote.
She’d served as Minister for Digital and Creative Industries since January 2018. Her wide-ranging role meant she was responsible for digital, broadband, online safety, telecoms markets and consumer policy, media, broadcasting and creative industries.
Since her appointment, she has been involved in a number of the Government’s creative policies, including a £60m fund for children’s television. She was also in discussions regarding the future of radio and when it would move away from FM/AM signals.
Recently she spoke about a £1.48m fund to extend Liverpool’s 5G Health and Social Care testbed.
