Danny Elfman catches up with self-taught The Piano winner while visiting Liverpool Philharmonic

Hollywood musical royalty Danny Elfman, the man behind 17 of Tim Burton’s film scores including Batman, Pee-wee’s Big Adventure, Beetlejuice, Edward Scissorhands, Beetlejuice and The Nightmare Before Christmas, hooked up with Liverpool pianist and Channel 4’s The Piano winner Brad Kella on a recent visit to the city’s Liverpool Philharmonic Hall..

Elfman was in Liverpool working with the Royal Liverpool Philharmonic Orchestra. The UK’s oldest Orchestra performed Elfman’s Percussion Concerto, which they recorded with him earlier in the year. Liverpool Philharmonic is also presenting Danny Elfman’s Music from the Films of Tim Burton this Saturday at the concert hall.

Brad Kella, a 22-year-old pianist who taught himself to play whilst in foster care, won the Channel 4 show The Piano earlier this year. Liverpool Philharmonic arranged for a meeting between the two musicians when Brad explained that Elfman was his hero and a huge inspiration to him. Brad is performing at Liverpool Philharmonic Hall on the 29 November.
