Yesterday, the new collaboration between Danny Boyle and Richard Curtis that imagines a world where The Beatles never existed, has premiered at the Tribeca Film Festival.

The film, which received a standing ovation when it closed the New York festival last night, stars former Eastenders actor Himesh Patel alongside Lily James, with cameos by Ed Sheeran and James Corden.

After the showing, Patel took to the stage to sing Something, from The Beatles’ 1969 classic album Abbey Road.

Tribeca Film Festival founders Jane Rosenthal and Robert De Niro had introduced the film.

De Niro said: “The film is about a world who wakes up and has never heard of The Beatles. It made me sad to think about, but it gave me another idea for a film. One where the world wakes up and no one has ever heard of Trump. That would be a film that would make us all very happy.”

Billboard called the film a “bright, big-hearted pop confection” while The Guardian labelled it “as fab as it could reasonably be expected to be”, although Indie Wire was not so keen, saying it was an “overstuffed and underwritten misfire”.
