Audio Always and Craig Charles’ National Poetry Day contribution, Way With Words, has landed on BBC Sounds following its Poetry Day debut on Charles’ 6 Music afternoon show last week.

Way With Words was a celebration of poetry and spoken word, focused on rappers, poets and wordsmiths and their lyrical craftsmanship. Centred on Charles’ show, the day included the first broadcast of a new poem, written by the Red Dwarf and Corrie star, reflecting on war and conflict in 2024. Music for the composition was scored by the BBC Philharmonic Orchestra and an accompanying video had a simultaneous visual release on 6 Music’s social channels.

Way With Words was also prominent in a number of shows across the network, including poet and broadcaster, Ian McMillan, joining Chris Hawkins and Huw Stephens speaking to the team behind the award-winning Get It Loud In Libraries project.

“Way With Words was a perfect example of our passion for bringing rich, compelling content to audiences, and we are thrilled to be working with BBC Radio 6 Music to shine a spotlight on the profound power of the spoken work,” said Dave Masterman, content director of Audio Always.

Other content from across the day is also available now on BBC Sounds.
