Countdown gets a new theme tune

Channel 4 is remixing some of its most iconic television theme songs ahead of the new series of The Piano.

Countdown, Gogglebox and Come Dine With Me: The Professionals will be among those getting a piano makeover.

“The Piano is that rarest of things, a TV show that makes people feel better about the world after watching it than they did before,” said Ian Katz, Channel 4’s Chief Content Officer.

“We are spreading a little of that musical magic by replacing the theme tunes of some of our best loved shows with specially recorded piano versions. Big thanks go out to the talented composers and performers who have made this happen and our production partners who are joining us in celebrating the return of The Piano.”

Kodaline frontman Steve Garrigan has rearranged ‘Perfect World’ which serves as Gogglebox’s title music and, in tonight’s episode the opening and closing music will be a piano medley for the first time.

Channel 4 News’ theme ‘Best Endeavours’, originally composed by Alan Hawkshaw, will also get the piano treatment on Sunday, rearranged and recorded by Phase Music and Universal Production Music.

Countdown’s music has had a “toe-tapping piano remix” from Steve Holness and Pascal Wyse and Come Dine With Me: The Professionals will have new piano title music by Patrick Duffin in episodes airing from Monday 6 to Friday 10 May.

The Piano series 2 airs on Channel 4 from Sunday 28th April at 9pm.
