Vue Entertainment is to become the new owner of the Odeon Printworks cinema.
It comes following AMC Entertainment’s acquisition of the Odeon and UCI Cinema Group in 2016, in a deal reportedly worth $1.2bn.
With the combined Group operating 7623 screens around the world, the CMA announced that it would be holding an in-depth investigation – unless it could address concerns about competition between cinemas in Manchester.
Prior to the merger, AMC ran a 16-screen multiplex at the Great Northern, while Odeon had several cinemas in the area, including The Printworks.
AMC offered to sell its Printworks cinema to Vue to allay concerns about “customer choice” and competition.
Now, following a formal consultation, the CMA has concluded that this is sufficient to address its concerns.
