Cold Feet to take another break – but ITV insists it will return

ITV has announced that Cold Feet is to take another break – but say it is “definitely not farewell”.

The Manchester-based comedy drama, which was originally piloted in 1997, concluded its ninth series last night.

It ran for five series to 2003 before returning for another four series from 2016.

But now writer and creator Mike Bullen has confirmed that a 10th series of Cold Feet would not be appearing for a while as the production team and cast take a “rest”.

There are plans however to pick up the lives of the central characters – played by James Nesbitt, John Thomson, Fay Ripley, Hermione Norris and Robert Bathurst – at a later point in their lives.

Bullen said: “We feel we’ve explored to our satisfaction the issues confronting the characters at this stage of their lives and we want to give them all a little time to move on, to put clear water between the stories we’ve told thus far and the issues they’ll be exploring when they are empty nesters staring down the barrel of grandparenthood. We’re looking forward to returning at a later date to document the agony and the ecstasy of the third age…”

Kenton Allen, executive producer and CEO of production company Big Talk, said: “We’re so proud to have brought Cold Feet back for four amazing series and are now taking a well earned holiday and saying au-revoir and definitely not farewell to a much loved series that has defined generations of ITV viewers.”
