Glasgow-based cloud computing and web hosting company iomart has announced plans for a Tier 3 data centre in Manchester.
The data centre that iomart plans to transform is a 10,000 sq ft facility which came as part of its acquisition of Manchester company LDeX in December 2018.
“Tier 3 is one of the highest standards, meaning that the data centre has systems, protocols and equipment in place to allow staff to make upgrades, fixes and/or changes without interrupting services to customers,” iomart explained.
CEO Angus MacSween added: “We are in the final planning phases for the investment in the Manchester datacentre acquired with the LDeX acquisition.
“This investment, which we are aiming to ensure will bring with it official Tier 3 certification, will be a well-received capacity addition in the fast growing technology and communications sector around the Manchester area.”
The Aim-quoted IT group posted an 8% rise in turnover to £55.1m (H1 2019: £50.9m) in the half-year to 30 September, driven by its Cloud Services operation, which grew by 10%.
Pre-tax profits increased by 15% to £8.4m in the period. Iomart operates 25 sites globally and has established operations in Paris, Frankfurt and Amsterdam in the last six months.
The business, which has doubled in size during the past five years through organic and acquisitive growth, indicated future buy-outs could be in the pipeline.
