Jeremy Clarkson, James May and Richard Hammond have recorded their final studio show together, according to reports this morning.
It’s been 17 years since the trio began on Top Gear, before moving over to Amazon after some Yorkshire-based food controversy in 2015.
The Sun reports that they made the announcement after recording the new series of The Grand Tour. However, while it is their final studio-based show, they will continue to present big budget specials together for Amazon. These will be shown over the next 2 years.
Clarkson told the paper: “There are only so many times you can watch a BMW go round the track.”
But added, that it was a really sad day and he would miss the banter with each other and the audience.
Clarkson presented Top Gear for 22 seasons, making his first appearance in 1988. Hammond started his career at Granada’s Men & Motors.
They left the BBC’s Top Gear amid controversy, when Clarkson had a “fracas” with a producer in a North Yorkshire hotel. It led to the BBC director general announcing that he had been sacked.
The 3 presenters were snapped up by Amazon in a multimillion pound, 3-year deal, said to be worth in excess of £35m.
Top Gear, meanwhile, has worked through a number of presenters since their departure. In October, it was announced that Andrew Flintoff and Paddy McGuinness would take over from Matt LeBlanc, who’s stepping down at the end of the next series.
