Charlotte in Sunderland’s serious message for mums-to-be

It might seem like non-stop ships and giggles for the stars of Geordie Shore, but the reality show’s Charlotte Crosby had a serious message for fans ahead of tonight’s launch of her new BBC Three vehicle, Charlotte in Sunderland.

Crosby gave birth via Caesarean section last October following an ectopic pregnancy. The star had previously promised that fans will see “every part” of the traumatic, but ultimately happy, experience in Charlotte in Sunderland, and the usually bubbly reality star, fitness guru and fashionista took on an uncharacteristically serious tone at the show’s official launch event in Manchester on Wednesday evening, just hours before the show’s 10pm BBC Three TV debut.

She said: “I hope, and this is a real thing, I hope that I can break the stigma of people being forced to have a natural birth, and I hope I break the stigma of people who can’t breast feed, because people are so embarrassed and scared to say ‘you know what? I had a C-section.’ Or ‘you know what? I don’t breast feed,’ because they get bullied into it.

“You know what? If they want to have a natural birth that’s fine, and if they don’t that’s also fine, and I hope it’ll just be ok for people to talk about that.”

The Manchester audience was also treated to an early preview of Charlotte’s adventures as she runs her own fashion label, Pepper Girls Club, alongside her trusty mother Letitia, prepares for motherhood with boyfriend Jake Ankers, and ruminates on the wonders of life in her native Sunderland.

Crosby also exclusively revealed that her new show, which is produced by Chatterbox Media and had debuted its opening episode on BBC iPlayer on Wednesday morning ahead of its full TV debut later in the day, was currently sitting at number 11 on the app’s most-watched charts.

That’s no mean feat for a humble Mackem lass considering the sheer volume of content available in the national broadcaster’s sizeable archive, even if she did have to borrow a bit of Geordie to achieve her fame.
