Channel X North’s award winning children’s comedy, So Awkward, has been commissioned for a fifth series.
BBC Children’s made the announcement ahead of the fourth series being aired later this summer.
“It’s great to have a new series of So Awkward commissioned before the release of Series 4. So Awkward has gone from strength to strength and relates to so many teen experiences. We’re excited to see where the show can go next!” said Alan Marke, managing director of Channel X.
CBBC has ordered an extended run of the show for 2019, with 13 x 30 minute episodes. They will also make a 6 x 15 minute series of The So Awkward Files. This will feature characters reflecting on their time at Cranmede High and discussing their favourite moments.
This will be aired on BBC iPlayer and CBBC between series 4 and 5.
So Awkward was created by Julie Bower, the script producer is Sally Martin and series producer is Jo Blake for Channel X North.
The series was commissioned by BBC Children’s Head of Content Cheryl Taylor with Exec Producer Amy Buscombe.
