Channel 4 returns to Geordie Hospital

Channel 4’s documentary series, Geordie Hospital, has returned for a second series.

The 6 x 60 minute series goes back to Newcastle and one of the “biggest and best” Hospital Trusts in the country. The documentary team from Curve Media  films in “every corner of the hospital” – including porters and surgeons, housekeepers and midwives, nurses and fruit stall sellers.

“We are very proud that Geordie Hospital is returning to Channel 4 for a second instalment,” said Channel 4’s Commissioning Editor, Rita Daniels.

“The successful first series was in the top five new 8pm weekday series in 2022. Curve Wales has once again produced an uplifting series that shows the incredible and inspiring work of the hospital staff and their enthusiasm, passion and dedication in providing care to their patients.”

Some of the stories include: top heart surgeon, Asif, performing valve replacement surgery on 13 year old Seb; surgeon, Peter, operating on 3 month old Amelia, who has been born with a cleft lip and palette; neurosurgeon, Claire, operating on Jen, who has spina bifida, which is tangling the nerves in her spinal column, and hospital chaplain, Katie, training up new staff welfare dog, Fern.

“We are delighted to be back with the brilliant and kind-hearted team at Newcastle Hospital. A joy to watch them as they help people, save lives and keep the hospital going. Such an incredible and sometimes funny team, a pleasure to work with them,” added Camilla Lewis/Rob Carey, CEO Curve Media.

The Executive Producer of the series is Sarah Swingler; Becky Houlihan & Gavin Henderson are Series Producers and the Series Director is Ben Sheldon,

“We were delighted to welcome the cameras back to Newcastle Hospitals last year, to film series two of Geordie Hospital,” explained Dame Jackie Daniel, Chief Executive of The Newcastle upon Tyne Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust.

“It’s a pleasure to see our extremely valued and hardworking clinical and support staff – and for the first time – our midwives, as they provide the very best care for our patients. I hope it provides a glimpse into the care and compassion that the team provide everyday.  I’m very grateful to all of our staff and patients who gave their time to help make this programme.  We really hope you all enjoy it.”
