Yorkshire-based supermarkets, Asda and Morrisons, have revealed their Christmas campaigns this morning.

Morrisons is focusing on a “value” Christmas, with the return of its “Farmer Christmas” character, while Asda has partnered with Warner Bros to bring Buddy the Elf to its stores.

Asda will air its television campaign first, with its ad premiering tonight on ITV’s Coronation Street.

The 90 second film uses original footage and famous lines from Elf to place the character in an Asda store.

“Like Buddy, we absolutely love Christmas – so we’re thrilled to welcome him to our team. We know this has been a tough year for so many people, which is why we want to create some little moments of joy for families this year with our Christmas campaign, and more importantly, our amazing products,” said Sam Dickson, Acting Chief Customer Officer at Asda.

“We hope that with a little bit of help from Buddy, our joy-filled Christmas offering will create some festive magic and helps give families a Christmas to remember together.”

Morrisons

Over at Bradford-based Morrisons, it has returned to its farmer Christmas character to highlight “great quality and value.”

Staff will take roles as“real-life elves” while during the 60second advert, Farmer Christmas will deliver a Christmas dinner to a family.

An “Officially Approved by Farmer Christmas” stamp will be used across social media and in store.

“We know that customers are having to manage their budgets closely at the moment but they have told us they don’t want to compromise on the Christmas meal,” explained Morrisons’ Chief Customer and Marketing Officer, Rachel Eyre.

“We’ve brought Farmer Christmas back this year to show them the food and great prices that, thanks to Morrisons foodmakers and farmers, will be available throughout the festive period, all stamped with his seal of approval.”

The ad will first appear on Good Morning Britain on 7th November.
