The Yorkshire studios, where ITV shoots Victoria, is set to become a major television and film complex.

Makin Enterprises, which owns the former RAF site at Church Fenton, has submitted planning proposals to build a permanent creative, digital and media space there.

Last night, officers from Selby District Council recommended that the plans be approved by the council’s planning committee on 3rd April.

Providing they agree, it would mean Makin Enterprises would receive full planning permission for the facility, which it believes would support almost 2000 jobs across creative and digital.

The project, Create Yorkshire, includes permanently changing the use of existing buildings, including aircraft hangars, into studios and office spaces.

In addition, the planning request seeks to develop a creative, digital and media industries “employment park.”

“We are pleased with the officer’s recommendation to approve the proposals. This is a unique opportunity to put the area on the world stage and become a centre of excellence for TV and film production,” said a spokesperson for Create Yorkshire.

“There is massive potential for a creative hub to have a positive impact on the local area and its economy. We hope that planning committee members will support our vision.”
