The team behind Peaky Blinders has announced new cast members as it starts shooting series five in Manchester.
Among the new names are Sam Claflin (The Nightingale, Adrift, Journey’s End), Anya Taylor-Joy (The Miniaturist, Split, The Witch) and Brian Gleeson (Phantom Thread, Logan Lucky).
“Looking forward to kicking around in the mud of Northern England with an exceptional cast and crew. The scripts are wild and pertinent – a classic Peaky brew,” stated Gleeson.
The fifth series is directed by Anthony Byrne (In Darkness, Butterfly, Ripper Street) and produced by Annie Harrison-Baxter (Marcella, In the Flesh, The Secret of Crickley Hall).
In its first outing on BBC One, the story moves to the financial crash of 1929, where Cillian Murphy’s Tommy Shelby MP is approached by a fellow politician with a plan that will affect not just his family’s future but that of the entire nation.
Peaky Blinders is produced by Caryn Mandabach Productions and Tiger Aspect Drama for BBC One.
It has been sold to 183 countries as well as airing on Netflix.
