One Agency is collaborating with Swizzels to launch brand new, limited edition Squashies, Squeletons alongside the release of long-awaited Tim Burton sequel Beetlejuice Beetlejuice.
One Agency has created a 30-second animated advert set to air across cinema screens and VoD, inviting viewers to ‘Prepare for the Scare’.
Squeletons are strawberry, sour apple, and orange flavoured skeleton shaped foam sweets all wrapped up in black and white striped packaging. One Agency noticed an uncanny and unmissable opportunity to tie the campaign in with the blockbuster film Beetlejuice Beetlejuice, released in cinemas at the weekend.
Setting out the eerie narrative, the motion design and illustrator teams worked together to create a storyboard. Once the client was happy, design work began and the campaign was underway.
Everything was done in-house, including packaging design, illustrations, 3D effects, voiceover script, and voiceover tests. The voiceover was outsourced to professional actors, who were meticulously chosen, before the final audio was sent to be tested by an external audio engineer.
It was important to highlight the launch of the limited edition Squeletons, and also push Swizzels’ existing Scrumptious Sweets, which were cast them in supporting roles for this movie-inspired advert.
Scrumptious Sweets plays the role of the morbidly curious character, and Squeletons’ role was inspired by the title character Beetlejuice. On a walk, Scrumptious Sweets stumbles across a leaflet and utters the forbidden word ‘Squeletons’ three times, causing Squeletons to rise from the grave before both bags burst and send their sweets flying across the screen.
One Agency’s advert is to be supported by a larger nationwide marketing campaign, including an influencer event on Friday 13th September, digital outdoor advertising, and in-store promotions.
The ad can be seen for six weeks during Beetlejuice Beetlejuice’s trailers in Pearl and Dean venues and for 2 weeks on ITVX VoD from October 17th 2024.
The terrifyingly tasty skeleton shaped sweets are available in stores now, and conveniently make the perfect cinema snack if you happen to be going to see Beetlejuice Beetlejuice.
