Prime Video is to air 99, a new documentary about Manchester United’s treble winning season.
Described as the “definitive story” of the period, it’s being made by David Beckham’s Studio 99, Gary Neville’s Buzz16 and Ventureland – the LA and London-based indie co-founded by Oscar-winning producer, John Battesk (One Day in September).
The Amazon Original documentary will be produced by Battesk and Miles Coleman, while Gazza director, Sampson Collins, will direct the series.
It’s described as “both a love letter to one of the greatest achievements in world football and the story of a group of players who were recruited, coached and moulded by Sir Alex Ferguson to create history.”
It will feature interviews with David Beckham, Gary Neville, Paul Scholes, Peter Schmeichel and Ole Gunnar Solskjaer.
There will also be never-before-seen archive footage, as well as behind-the-scenes candid video from the club and fans.
For the next few days at least, Manchester United remains the only English club to achieve the treble – their “noisy neighbours” are just 2 games away from replicating that feat – albeit a Champions League Final and an FA Cup Final, the latter against United.
The documentary is scheduled for release next year.
