BBC seeks North East factual series

Newcastle

The BBC has put a call out for a new factual series, which must be produced from the North East.

It forms part of the BBC’s commitment to spend £25m in the region over the next 5 years.

“This is an incredibly exciting opportunity to showcase the North East and all the amazing talent we have to offer both on screen and off screen,” explained Newcastle-based BBC Commissioning Editor, Helen Munson.

“I’m really looking forward to hearing distinctive programme ideas which celebrate the rich and diverse character of our wonderful region.”

The commission will be from BBC Daytime and Early Peak and be led by Munson alongside Carla-Maria Lawson, Head of Daytime and Early Peak.

A full editorial brief and invitation to pitch, will be published in the New Year, but the 15 x 30 minute series will air on BBC Two and will need to have a “strong sense of regional portrayal embedded into the editorial.”

Production companies will also need to have a “substantive base” in the North East.
