The city of Aberdeen is to host BBC Sports Personality of the Year 2019 for the first time.
The event, touted as the biggest awards night in the sporting calendar, will be held at the P&J Live Arena on Sunday December 15th.
Earlier this year, BBC Sport’s in-house production team retained the contract to stage and produce BBC Sports Personality of the Year.
The event had been the first BBC Sport programme to be put out for competitive tender.
Presenters Gary Lineker, Clare Balding and Gabby Logan will host proceedings from Aberdeen in front of an audience of 10,000.
Last year, Tour de France champion Geraint Thomas was named the 65th BBC Sports Personality of the Year, the fifth cyclist to win the award.
Alongside the main event, a special BBC Festival of Sport will take place in Aberdeen on 13th and 14th December.
Barbara Slater, Director of BBC Sport, said: “It’s been an extraordinary year of sport so far with many incredible moments and surely more to come. I have no doubt Aberdeen will be an excellent host city to help us celebrate them.”
