The BBC has published its annual report, including the salaries of highest-paid presenters and celebrities.
The corporation’s two highest earners, former England football hero and Match of the Day presenter Gary Lineker and Radio 2 Breakfast Show host Zoe Ball, have both seen a small cut in their salaries, though with Lineker bringing in £1.35m and Ball clocking up just under £1m they’re unlikely to need to heed government advice to switch to supermarket own brand shopping just yet.
Among the big winners this year was Salford-based Naga Munchetty. Munchetty, who hosts BBC Breakfast from the BBC’s MediaCity UK studios, received a pay rise of over £100,000 compared to 2020/21’s figures, reflecting her growing stature at the organisation, where she also hosts Panorama and Radio 5 Live’s Naga Munchetty Programme.
Among this year’s highest hourly earners must surely be former tennis ace John McEnroe, who received around £180,000 for his two week stint presenting Wimbledon. Another sportsman closer to home with reasons to be cheerful is former Manchester City defender Micah Richards. The affable Mancunian received around £200,000 for his role presenting Match of the Day and other BBC football output, having not been on the list at all in 2020/21.
Here is the list of earners over £150,000 in full, along with 2020/21 earnings for comparison. It should also be noted that stars who are not paid directly by the BBC, such as Graham Norton, whose Graham Norton Show is produced by BBC Studios, a separate commercial entity, are not included on the list.
