BBC Children’s has announced a series of new commissions, with a focus on diversity and entertainment.
These include Black History Heroes, 31 x 2 minute shows to reflect the lives of all children in the UK. Made by The Playmaker Group, they’ll focus on figures ranging from Serena Williams to Martin Luther King and Mary Seacole.
BBC Children’s In-House Productions will make Colours, which are 14 x 7 minute shows for CBeebies. These will celebrate 14 colours and look at what they mean and their significance culturally and historically.
“We really want these new titles to bring some joy and hope to homes around the UK as we continue to navigate our way through disruptive times,” said Cheryl Taylor, Head of Content for BBC Children’s.
“Many familiar faces, along with some new ones are sure to delight our young audience. These, coupled with so many diverse titles, reinforce our mission that BBC Children’s is here to reflect the lives of all children in the UK and to remind them that the future can be bright”
New entertainment shows are DLT Entertainment’s Monster Court. The 15 x 10 minute shows for CBBC will see monster puppet judge, Rt Hon Judge Martin Smudge, dish out justice for children in a comical way.
BBC Children’s in-house productions has devised Ricky Wilson’s Art Jam. Here frontman (and former art teacher), Wilson, will be joined by a celebrity friend to find out how art has inspired their lives and careers.
The MediaCityUK team has also produced a new gameshow for CBBC, Would You Rather?
The shows will air across CBeebies, CBBC, iPlayer and BBC Sounds.
