BBC Breakfast is having its first major set makeover since it arrived in Salford 10 years ago.

The new multipurpose studio space will be shared with BBC Sport, which will use it for live bulletins, Sportsday and the Football News Show.

While the red sofa will remain, the new studio is larger and will feature the latest in broadcast technology, including high-tech graphics and 3 additional cameras.

BBC Breakfast explained that the new technology would enable it to tell stories in a “creative, bold and imaginative way, and enable collaborative sharing across sites.”

“After celebrating 10 years in Salford and 40 years on BBC One it was time for a new look and studio for the UK’s most watched morning show,” said Richard Frediani, BBC Breakfast Editor.

“Breakfast is how millions of Britons start their day, and I hope they’ll enjoy seeing their favourite presenters in a bright, modern space.”

Different camera angles will highlight its position within the BBC North operations.

“The new studio is a brilliant update that will completely elevate and revolutionise our output,” added Helen Brown, Senior News Editor for Sport.

“Sportsday showcases the BBC’s original journalism, live action, talking points and human interest stories and is one of the best performing programmes on any news channel in the UK.”

The BBC stated that the change was part of a strategy to introduce “versatile studios that can be used by multiple teams throughout the day to provide the best value for audiences.” This studio will be used “for more than 20 hours a day, 365 days a year.”

Breakfast will be the first to go live from the space on Monday 26th June.
