BBC Breakfast has achieved its best year to date on the BBC iPlayer.
Latest figures show that viewers requested to stream the show live almost 80m times in 2020, that’s up 56% year-on-year.
“It’s encouraging to see that millions have turned to BBC Breakfast to stay informed and entertained in what has been a difficult time for many,” explained Richard Frediani, Editor, BBC Breakfast.
“From investigating the crisis in care homes to the roll out of the Coronavirus vaccine, along with heart-warming stories like Captain Tom’s fundraising efforts and celebrating lockdown heroes, BBC Breakfast continues to be there for viewers in times of need.”
On television, the show is the most watched breakfast programme in the UK, with more than 10m viewers every week and its audience share increased to 42%. On BBC One, its highest reach of the year was 7.3m, with an average daily reach of 5.7m.
The press release points out that this is “almost double the viewers of our nearest rival.”
