Bauer Media has bought Greater Manchester station, Revolution 96.2.
The move will see the station rebrand as Greatest Hits Radio later in the year. That will mean a networked breakfast and regional drive time shows, as well as a playlist of 70s, 80s and 90s music.
Revolution 96.2 was sold by Steve Penk to Matt Ramsbottom’s Credible Media in 2014 and broadcasts across Oldham, Rochdale and Tameside.
“Media is a tricky business at the moment, this deal will help us focus on the Oldham Evening Chronicle brand and its digital development plans for the future. We would like thank Dee and the Bauer team and wish them all the very best with the Hits network,” said Ramsbottom.
Bauer stated that the acquisition would add more than 670,000 to the population coverage for the Hit Radio Brand network.
“Manchester’s diverse culture and rich musical history has always made it the perfect main broadcasting hub for the Hits Radio Brand Network. Home to our studios in Castle Quay, Greater Manchester also remains a competitive market space and so we’re delighted to be able to take this important step in ensuring our listeners have greater access to this growing brand, as well as creating scale for advertisers,” explained Dee Ford, Group Managing Director of Bauer Radio.
“We’d like to thank all of those at Revolution 96.2, a station that has served and entertained their community valiantly over the years, and we look forward to continuing their great work.”
We are waiting to hear how many staff will be impacted by the acquisition. Breakfast presenter, Elliott Eastwick has confirmed that he will lose his job, after 13 years at the station.
