Pundits

Axed Soccer Saturday stars Phil Thompson, Charlie Nicholas and Matt Le Tissier have launched their own rival TV show, produced by Manchester’s Chief for Paddy Power.

The trio were sacked by the Sky Sports show, fronted by Jeff Stelling, last month. In the new sitcom, titled Pundits, Thompson, Nicholas and Le Tissier share a house and “bemoan their luck after getting shown the door.”

Using at camcorder and with ‘Score Saturday’ plastered on a bedsheet, former Charlton manager Alan Curbishley takes the anchor role to “help the lads get back on their feet.”The first episode of the series was released on Saturday.

There will be two further instalments in which we see the trio prepare for a new opportunity in TV, learn about the modern world of football and contact the spirit world for some pointers.

The episodes will be released every Saturday across Paddy Power’s social channels.

Chief’s CEO Colin Offland said ”Working with Paddy Power is always good fun and an opportunity for great comedy. This was no exception, we developed a surreal script, with fantastic talent, added our brilliant comedy director Ben Tonge into the mix and we’ve ended up with a unique short form sitcom that’s performing brilliantly and getting great reviews. “

Paddy Power Head of Content Jack Wilson added: “This was an incredible team effort, with such a short turnaround. Chief totally get the comedic style that we are looking for and Ben Tonge is superb at achieving laugh-out-loud performances.”
