Sarah Lancashire was last night named the best supporting actress at the Bafta awards in London.
The Oldham-born actress was recognised for her role as Caroline in Red Productions Company’s Last Tango in Halifax. She beat Claire Rushbrook, Shirley Henderson and co-star Nicola Walker to the prize.
She’d previously been nominated twice at the Baftas, the most recent coming last year for the same role. Lancashire is married to BBC England director Peter Salmon.
Other awards went to Ant and Dec, who won twice for Ant and Dec’s Saturday Night Takeaway, and Cilla Black, who received a special award for her contribution to television.
And BBC3 zombie drama In the Flesh – developed by BBC Drama Production in Salford and shot in the North West – took home the mini-series prize.
But North West Tonight and Granada Reports lost out to ITV News at Ten in the News Coverage category.
