The University of Salford has appointed Annabeth Robinson to lead its animation programme from the next academic year.
Based in Leeds, Robinson, won the 2016 Times Higher Education Award for Outstanding Digital Innovation in Teaching for her Virtual Landscapes research project.
This was through a collaboration between Leeds College of Art and the University of Leeds, to create a free educational resource to enable geology students to build realistic 3D images of the landscapes they were studying
It’s now used globally as an alternative for students who cannot take part in field trips.
“Animation is an exciting and rapidly growing creative industry and I’m thrilled to have joined the team here at MediaCityUK,” she explained.
“As well as working with some very talented staff and students, I look forward to continuing my research into how cutting edge virtual and mixed reality technology can be used to tell engaging stories.”
Robinson is also involved in research into immersive technology and she developed the Zoom Through project, which enabled audiences to move through a 360 scan of the Medieval St Margaret’s Church in York.
