ITV has confirmed that Ian White will be joining ITV News Calendar as the new permanent co-host alongside Lara Rostron.
White spent almost 25 years at BBC Look North as a presenter and reporter, but left the corporation last month.
“I’m very excited to be joining ITV News to present Calendar. It will be fantastic to share the studio with Lara again having presented together in the past at the BBC,” he said.
“It’s going to be a privilege to be invited into the homes of ITV Calendar viewers, and I’m sure there will be lots of fun to be had along the way too. I love this part of the world and I’m looking forward to meeting our viewers when I’m out and about.”
White has spent the majority of his career in Yorkshire, becoming a newsreader on BBC Radio Leeds in the 1990s, before moving over to television.
“We’re delighted Ian is joining the ITV Calendar family. He’s a much loved and respected presenter and he brings decades of experience telling the stories that matter to viewers in our region,” added Mark Hayman, Head of News at ITV Calendar.
In the new role, which begins next month, he will co-present 2 regional editions of ITV Calendar at 6pm with Lara Rostron and weather presenter Kerrie Gosney.
“I’ve always been a keen viewer of ITV Calendar and admire the talented team of journalists and technical experts who work so hard to bring the audience a first class news service every day,” added White.
White’s first job in television was working at the Newcastle office of TV-am. Something which has remained a big part of his life, as he now owns the IP rights and trademark, as well as a large archive of the show.
