Amazon and Universal have secured the UK rights to a new documentary about former Manchester United manager Sir Alex Ferguson.
Sir Alex Ferguson: Never Give In will launch on Amazon Prime on May 29th and a run in cinemas is planned from May 27th. Universal also has the rights to distribution in North America.
It’s produced by DNA Films, best known for Oscar-winning movies The Last King of Scotland and Ex Machina, and Passion Pictures, which is behind Oscar-winning documentaries such as One Day in September and Searching for Sugarman.
Directed by his son Jason, the documentary will cover Ferguson’s childhood in Glasgow, his playing career with Rangers, Queens Park, St Johnstone, Dunfermline, Falkirk and Ayr, and his rise to become greatest managers the game has ever known with East Stirling, St Mirren, Aberdeen and United.
He made the film while recovering from the life-threatening brain haemorrhage he suffered in 2018, when he feared his memory might desert him.
There will be interviews with Ferguson’s wife and sons and former players such as Eric Cantona, Ryan Giggs, Gordon Strachan and Archie Knox.
Ferguson said: “Losing my memory was my biggest fear when I suffered a brain haemorrhage in 2018. In the making of this film I was able to revisit the most important moments of my life, good and bad. Having my son Jason direct this film has ensured an honest and intimate account.”
