Sheffield’s Warp Films has released the trailer for their new BBC drama, Reunion.
Fresh from the global success of Netflix’s Adolescence, Reunion is another ground-breaking show.
Written by Sheffield-born deaf writer, William Mager, the majority of the cast are deaf or using British Sign Language.
The 4-parter tells the story of Daniel Brennan, a deaf man determined to right his wrongs, while unravelling the truth behind the events that led him to prison.
Described as an “emotional thriller of revenge and redemption” it sees the lead, played by Matthew Gurney (Name Me Lawand, Theatre Ad Infinium, Coffee Morning Club) discover that his only meaningful relationship is with his estranged daughter Carly, played by Lara Peake (How to Have Sex), who he has not had any contact with since his arrest over a decade ago.

The cast also includes Anne-Marie Duff (Bad Sisters, The Salisbury Poisonings, Suffragette), Eddie Marsan (Back to Black, Ray Donovan) and Rose Ayling-Ellis (Summer of Rockets, As You like It, EastEnders).
“Reunion is an amazing storyline and is completely different from my previous work,” said Gurney.
My character Brennan is on a wildly different journey than that portrayed by normal deaf lives, this portrays a man who is hated within the deaf community. It shows how deaf people react and act on screen in an honest and authentic way. We are different to hearing actors, we are so much more visual storytellers, it’s not about relying on sound it’s about using your eyes and seeing what is going on in the story”.
The 4 x 60 minute drama was created and written by William Mager. The series is directed by Luke Snellin (One Day, Wanderlust) who also acts as executive producer, with Helen Ostler (The Last Kingdom, Crime) as producer, and Siobhan Morgan (Waterloo Road, Hollyoaks) as associate producer. Mark Herbert (Four Lions, The Virtues, This is England) and Gwen Gorst (Unforgotten, A Discovery of Witches) are executive producers for Warp Films, alongside series writer William Mager, with Rebecca Ferguson and Jo McClellan for the BBC.
Reunion is supported by Screen Yorkshire and BBC Studios will distribute the series internationally.
All four episodes of Reunion will be on BBC iPlayer from 6 am on Monday 7 April.
