Trinity has revealed today that the pilot of the BirminghamLive concept for the Birmingham Mail will be rolled out to the Liverpool Echo.
The concept was trialled, with the aim of creating a completely standalone and sustainable digital business.
The publisher said that it was “very pleased” with the progress made in Birmingham and would be extending the project to the West and East Midlands and its Bristol/Gloucester/Somerset/Dorset regions.
Websites would all be rebranded as “Live”. The Liverpool Echo is the exception. Its newsroom will use the same model, but the brand will be retained.
Trinity said that the move would result in “up to 49 roles” being at risk of redundancy. It has now entered into consultation with those affected, the majority of which are likely to be in print roles.
