£2.2m BBC social media and mobile brief goes out to tender

The BBC has announced details of a social media and mobile contract, worth up to £2.2m.

It’s hoping to appoint a single supplier which can provide both premium rate services (PRS) and non-PRS mobile services. The successful agency would also be able to create an “easy to use” web application to enable production teams to interact both with SMS and social media channels.

“The BBC invites interaction with is audience through a number of channels. The use of SMS messages is still highly popular with some sections of the audience, especially with Local Radio and World Service listeners, but social media services such as Twitter and Facebook are becoming increasingly important as well. The majority of this interaction takes place within the context of fast-moving live radio and television programmes and event commentary online (Sport, Music, News, etc.),” explained the brief.

“The BBC currently contracts with a single supplier to provide mobile telephony connectivity and services. This supplier also provides a web-based application for use by production teams to allow them to view and moderate mobile and social-media content. The framework contracts with the supplier for these services will expire in 2014.”

The 2-year contract is worth between £1m and £2.2m as part of a framework agreement. There’s then an option to extend twice in 12 month periods.

It’s being advertised through the Bravo Solution portal.

The contract start date is July 2014, with the listing deadline 13th January.
