Hello, thank you for your interest in this role! Prolific North, the go-to news publisher for the North’s creative, marketing and tech sectors is looking for an experienced marketer to join our team on a full time basis.

If you have a passion for all things media, you are creative, hard-working, independent and ambitious, please read on.

Prolific North is an independent news and events company based in Manchester established in 2013. Across our team of fourteen, we’re committed to shining a spotlight on the work, people, companies and stories that make the North a powerhouse. We cover the North West, Yorkshire & Humber, the North East and more recently, Scotland.

Our news coverage, research, and editorial features bring almost 1.5 million visitors to our website every year and a combined social following of 60k across all our platforms including our loyal email subscribers.

Every year we bring together hundreds of the very best in Northern talent to our live events and highly anticipated annual awards galas, including the Northern Marketing Festival, Digital City Festival, Prolific North Live and the Tech Awards to name a few.

The Role

This role is hugely important in our growth journey as you will oversee all aspects of our marketing and communications. You will help us grow our social media following, our email subscribers, drive event ticket sales, awards entries and generate leads for our sales team through your marketing activities.

What does the role look like on a daily basis?

  • Work with our sales, editorial and operations teams to develop and execute integrated marketing campaigns across our portfolio of events and awards, such as the Northern Marketing Festival, Digital City Festival and Prolific North Live.
  • Develop and maintain exceptional relationships with internal and external stakeholders such as agency partners, supporters or advertisers.
  • Generate ideas for content and produce content. Whilst some of these responsibilities are shared with others in the editorial and marketing team, the content you will be producing includes key positioning copy, email, websites, brochures, event pages, blogs, social media, press releases, copywriting scripts or videos.
  • Conduct research into industry trends, potential media partners, and competitors.
  • Develop our email strategy, building and scheduling emails across the projects you’ll be working on.
  • Overseeing our social media strategy and content across LinkedIn, Instagram and X as a key growing channel.
  • Report on your progress, KPIs and observations to the Managing Director or within project teams as needed.

What are we looking for?

  • We hope you have at least five years of experience creating and delivering integrated marketing campaigns. Experience in working on large events or expos is a bonus.
  • You can demonstrate a clear understanding of the fundamentals of B2B marketing; you have an awareness of industry trends and take an active interest in the latest marketing campaigns.
  • You’re knowledgeable about the digital, tech and marketing sectors in the UK (ideal, but not essential).

Your skills and competencies

  • Strategic thinking and ability to work collaboratively to solve problems together, deliver on multiple projects and bring our value proposition to life.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, you’re confident speaking to external stakeholders on the phone, pitching ideas in meetings, giving your colleagues constructive feedback, and can manage customer expectations effectively.
  • You’re organised, process-driven, comfortable with change and able to keep calm under pressure (a lot of your work will be on events, which often involves last minute changes and the need to be flexible).
  • You’re super comfortable with digital work (you’ll need to learn how to use several events management platforms and websites).
  • You can multitask and manage multiple projects simultaneously.
  • Superb copywriting skills with an ability to adapt to different tones of voice.
  • An understanding of SEO fundamentals.
  • Some experience with Adobe (InDesign, Illustrator) and/ or Canva would be ideal.

Your attitude

Whilst Prolific North has been around for 11 years and is now an established media entity within the North, we are a small team of 14 people eager to get stuck in and get things done.

On our best days this is how we’d describe our culture and values:

  • We are prolific: productive, creative, inventive.
  • We are ambitious, go getters that punch above our weight.
  • Prolific is a mindset. It thinks big, plans ahead, and imagines ‘How could we…?’ instead of getting stuck on ‘I can’t’.
  • We are resourceful and relentless in our pursuit for knowledge and quality.
  • We always look for opportunities to strengthen our brand and delight our audience.
  • To be prolific, we have to be resilient.
  • When things don’t go our way, we roll with the punches, learn from our mistakes and evolve into something better.
  • We strive for progress not perfection.
  • We have a backbone: strength of character.
  • We stand up for what we think is right.
  • We are fair and accurate in our reporting.
  • We are honest, trustworthy and reliable.
  • We deliver what we say when we say.
  • We are a unit - we work hard as a team and communicate effectively.
  • We do our best to spread a positive, can-do attitude but we don’t shy away from the truth.
  • Growth isn’t always ‘Yes’. It questions and challenges.
  • It's ok to say ‘No’, it's ok not to agree, and it's ok to flow against the current.
  • We share ideas and opinions with empathy, respect, and good intent.
  • We remain open-minded.
  • We have FUN: enjoying what we do
  • We like what we do and we like who we do with it.
  • We’re hard working but friendly and positive.
  • We are down to Earth, approachable and responsive.
  • People love to work with us.
  • We always try our best to help where we can.
  • We know how to give and take constructive feedback.
  • We respect and value each other’s contributions and celebrate each other’s achievements - both life & work.

We create the environment we want to be in.
