Stein IAS is a Macclesfield-based post-modern marketing agency that merges state-of-the-art technology with creative passion.
A trusted partner to global B2B brands, Stein IAS connects them with customers rationally, emotionally and financially.
Whilst they have offices in London, Paris, New York, San Francisco and Shanghai, their Bollington office is based within Clarence Mill, a former cotton spinning mill built in the 19th century along the Macclesfield Canal.
We spoke to the CEO of Stein IAS, Rob Morrice, to find out more about the refurbishment…
“We hold a strong commitment to learning and the empowerment of individuals to take charge of their own learning, which in turn, means we all do a better job, which consequently grows the business. The redevelopment of the office has provided an environment that facilitates exactly that.
“We are certain that it has played a pivotal role in facilitating the development of our staff. For which we have been awarded accreditation against the Investors in People Standard and more recently, became the first-ever marketing agency to receive a Princess Royal Training Award.”
Why is the workplace appropriate for your company?
Our purpose is is to advance the art and science of B2B marketing with a combination of data driven and intuitive human insights, original creativity and amazing content experiences, and the latest interactive and multimedia technology.
Our vision is of an agency driven by a self-sustaining learning culture, staying ahead of the competition by driving the evolution of our industry rather than reacting to it. Learning is our business strategy. To be clear, we believe that if we all keep learning how to do a better job, the company will succeed. This is not a theory we are trying to prove, but a fact we are certain of. Therefore, we set out to develop a workspace that encourages creativity and collaborative working, conducive to their productivity and development.
How big is the new space?
The redesign of the office, which spans 7,744 sq ft, has seen the expansion and opening up of the kitchen, placing it the heart of the agency and making it a social and recreational space. It now boasts benches, a pool table and an arcade machine with all the classics – Pac-Man, Space Invaders, Street Fighter and more!
We also brightened up our boardroom and meeting rooms with natural light thanks to floor to ceiling glass partitions. We kitted out each space with new Smart TVs, conference cameras and acoustic panels to reduce echo.
Our reception area has also been revamped with a ‘walk of fame’ which showcases some of our biggest award wins over the years and an Alexa to keep our visitors entertained. We have added a fully soundproofed sound and video recording, and photography studio, complete with a dedicated editing suite and render farm.
Our office redesign wasn’t limited to its interior. We also created a garden within which we’ve planted a variety of wild flowers in recognition of its wild meadow roots. The garden also has a shed and a BBQ area, which we use to make bacon sandwiches as a Friday treat.
How many people work there?
We have 50 employees working out of our Bollington office, across disciplines including strategic planning, creative, design, video production, web development, measurement and data analytics, marketing automation, earned and owned media, and more.
How did you go about redesigning the space?
We began by asking all members of the team to put forward their suggestions for what they’d like to see the office redesign incorporate.
A design committee comprising individuals across multiple teams then came together to whittle these down and thrash out a final design for those in charge of the purse strings to sign off. This was then passed on to our third-party contractor to bring to life.
