Where We Work: Creo Comms, Sunderland

Strategic communications agency Creo moved into its new office in Sunniside in Sunderland in April, having worked remotely since the beginning of the pandemic.

Foyle Street, where the office is based, is a throwback to Victorian Sunderland and one of the city’s most attractive roads. The property is Grade II-listed and serves as Creo Comms’ HQ, built originally in the mid-19th century.

Creo bought the builiding from the Royal Society for the Blind in 2019, and work completed on the development last year. The team could only move in once COVID restrictions had eased, and started there in spring.

Bryce Wilcock, Client Partner at Creo Comms, said…

“After almost a year of working from home, I think I speak for the entire team when I say it’s been brilliant to finally sit down at a desk in our new home and bounce ideas off one another. It really is an exciting new chapter for everyone.”

Where is it?

8 Foyle Street, Sunniside, Sunderland, SR1 1LB

How big is it?

The four-storey, open-plan office boasts 255 square metres of floorspace and is kitted out with creative editing suites, hotdesking facilities, a board room, meeting rooms and an innovation room, with whiteboard walls.

The move to the new office will provide the company – which was previously based at Sunderland Software Centre – with the additional space needed to grow its headcount, having recently expanded its team.

What happens there?

Creo Comms started life as a public relations agency. However its offering has grown over the past seven years to include design, social media management, content marketing, web design and development, videography, media buying and digital marketing.

Although the company embraces flexible working patterns, the majority of the team now work from the Creo office, with day-to-day work varying from everything from media relations to design, video production and crisis communications.

Why is the workplace appropriate?

Creo is proud to have grown in Sunderland, so staying in the city and contributing to its regeneration is something that the team are particularly proud of. With most of the team hailing from the city, and many of the company’s first clients having strong connections to Wearside, Creo was keen to grow roots in Sunderland, establishing a base with room to grow.

Buying and renovating the building has allowed Creo to create a space that truly works for the business. The team sit around one large desk that runs the full length of the office, creating a ‘one team’ culture that is fundamental to the company’s success.

The spaces created meet the needs of the business, designed in partnership with a local architect firm to a high specification.

Who works there?

The Creo team currently consists of Managing Director Louise Bradford, Account Director Bryn Littleton, Graphic and Web Designer Shaun Burns, Client Partner Bryce Wilcock, Designer Alice Clark, and Junior Client Partner Beth Dixon.

The team is currently expanding, and anticipates further roles being created over the coming months after a series of high-profile contract wins with the likes of Legal & General, the Centre for Ageing Better, and Health Education England among its client roster.
