Brian Wesley, who worked on ITV series including Surprise Surprise and Game for a Laugh, has died aged 67.
Born in Greater Manchester, “Wes” started his career in the 1960s at the Eccles and Patricroft Journal, before heading to the Bolton News and then the Express & Star in Wolverhampton. In 1969 he joined the Sheffield Morning Telegraph, where he remained for a year, before heading to Fleet Street to work for The Sun.
It was in London that he started a move towards television, joining LWT to work on the production of some of its biggest shows, including Game for a Laugh, Child’s Play, Tell the Truth and Surprise Surprise.
In 1989 he was made editor of Kilroy for the BBC.
In the 90s he was diagnosed with kidney problems and after a year of dialysis he underwent a kidney transplant.
His career took a back seat as he concentrated on his loves, including Bolton Wanderers, cricket, railways and the countryside. However, he did find time to produce the European Film Awards.
