A new Manchester-based horror film will have its UK premiere at Grimmfest next month.

Producers of Habit say it’s the first horror movie to be set in the city for more than 40 years.

“Habit is not like any other horror film you’ve seen. It’s the story of Michael, played by Elliot James Langridge (Northern Soul), jobless and down on his luck, he is irresistibly drawn into the city’s seedy underworld and is groomed by a subculture who have a dark secret, a bloody addiction that they intend Michael to share,” explained director, Simeon Halligan.

Made by Not A Number Productions and Content Media, it also features Jessica Barden (Penny Dreadful, The Lobster), William Ash (The Tunnel, Waterloo Road), Roxanne Pallett (Emmerdale), Sally Carmen (Shameless) and Andew Ellis (This is England).

Halligan adapted Steve McGeagh’s critically acclaimed novel and filmed on location across the city, including Ancoats, Stockport, Bolton and Blackley. Studio sets were shot at The Pie Factory.

The last horror film to be set in Manchester, was The Living Dead at Manchester Morgue, in 1974.
