Plans for a US remake of BBC One drama Last Tango in Halifax have been put on hold due to a clash over scheduling between rival broadcasters.
Yorkshire-born writer and creator Sally Wainwright revealed yesterday that Annie Hall star Diane Keaton had acquired the rights for a version to air on cable channel HBO.

However, a deal has been put on hold due to a contractual clash involving rival US network PBS.
A Red Production Company spokesman said: “Red were in discussions with HBO about the possibility of a US remake of Last Tango in Halifax but talks have been put on hold due to the original UK version of the drama transmitting on PBS.”
Keaton’s plans were revealed yesterday by Wainwright at a Broadcasting Press Guild lunch. She added that she would have an associate producer role on the US version, but did not expect to be closely involved.
The series, which starred Derek Jacobi and Anne Reid, was one of the BBC’s highest-rating new shows of last year.
A second series, again filmed in the North of England, will launch on BBC One next month with a third already being talked about.
