Pulsant announces £4.5m new investment in Manchester data centre

Pulsant, the data centre and edge infrastructure provider, is to invest a further £4.5m in its Manchester data centre, supporting the delivery of edge computing and high-bandwidth, low-latency connectivity for local businesses.

To be completed in December 2023, the expansion of Pulsant’s Data Hall 4 will make edge computing capabilities more accessible and powerful for businesses in the North West through Pulsant’s platformEDGE, its next-generation edge compute platform. Local businesses will be able to access LINX peering services and 10 global clouds – and all from the heart of Manchester.

The investment will deliver 300kW of additional IT capacity and expand the facility by 320m2 – futureproofing against the growing demand for enterprise-grade connectivity across Manchester and the North West.

Ben Cranham, COO at Pulsant, said: “For regional businesses to thrive, they need access to a high bandwidth, low latency interconnection network. This investment in Manchester extends our commitment to support the growing technology demand for regional data centre access and colocation services across the North West.

“It supports Greater Manchester Council forward-thinking digital strategy and evolving regional ecosystem, enabling Manchester to become one of the leading digital economies in the next five years.”

Pulsant is committed to achieving sustainable business operations, with near-term carbon reduction targets approved by the SBTi as part of its journey to Net Zero by 2050. In Manchester, measures include trialling non-palm oil derived HVO biofuel to replace fossil diesel in its standby power generators, and a commitment to eliminate the use of FM200 fire suppressant gas by 2030.
