Peter Scott, who founded Burnley-based printing firm, Peter Scott Printers, has died after a short illness.
The 89-year-old set up the commercial printers in 1960, using his de mob money from military service.
He started out with a printing press, based in his front room at home, then moved to a local chapel, before growing into premises on Darnley Street in Burnley.
In 2020 the company invested £200k in a new state-of-the-art £1m factory on Heasandford Industrial Estate.
Current owner, Scott Dawson, who said that Scott was a “local legend” added that his legacy was that Peter Scott Printers is one of the last remaining large lithographic printing firms in the town. In 1998 there were 14.
Dawson previously ran marketing and advertising agency, Scott Dawson Advertising – which was set up with a loan from Scott. He took over the printers in 1998.
Scott first retired in 1992, but did return to the company 6 years later, before finally retiring to Banff in Aberdeenshire.
