County Durham’s Digital Edge, which specialises in the Wix web platform, has secured a £50k investment from the North East Small Loans Fund.

The funding will be used to increase the company’s business development and marketing activity around its product, with a particular view to opportunities in new global markets, and support its aim of reaching £500,000 in turnover this year.

Digital Edge is headquartered in Newton Aycliffe, with a satellite office in Gloucestershire. It was founded in 2021 when Ian Proctor & Graham Marsh decided to expand the services and reach offered by their existing web design company Pixel Media, which had already attracted around 100 customers locally since launching in 2017, and merged with Gloucestershire’s Infuze Group.

The company now offers a full range of digital marketing services such as web design, software, PPC, SEO and social and email marketing and specialises in utilising the Wix Velo web development platform. Recent projects include a point-of-sale product for global sales specialist Epos Now, which allows it to be integrated within the Wix platform, and a new website for Billingham’s RMC Sharpening Services, unveiled this week.

Ian Proctor, sales director at Digital Edge, said: “We’re seeing growing numbers of new business opportunities coming in not just from North East England, but from right around the world, including from Spain, France, the US, Canada, UAE, Singapore and Australasia.”

Part of the £130m North East Fund and aimed predominantly at smaller SMEs, the £9m North East Small Loan Fund typically offers loans of up to £100,000 to businesses in Tyne & Wear, Durham and Northumberland. It is designed to assist with the creation of over 1,200 new regional jobs in more than 320 SMEs over the life of the fund.
