Yorkshire Tea’s big-hitting digital comms chief Ollie Ratcliffe is switching his tipple as he departs his role as digital comms specialist at Yorkshire Tea parent Betty’s and Taylors of Harrogate for the post of head of marketing at West Yorkshire craft brewery Salt.

Announcing his new role on LinkedIn, Ratcliffe couldn’t wait to get started with the unforgivable puns: “I’m ‘hoppy’ to be joining the incredible team at SALT as the new Head of Marketing,” he wrote to audible groans from across the internet. “Home to a portfolio of cracking venues, a superb brand and my favourite pint (Citra. If you know, you know) – I’m excited for the journey ahead and sharing more as we go. For now, please feel free to go ahead and enjoy one of these lovely numbers in the sunshine this evening.”

In four years at Betty’s and Taylors, Ratcliffe received global recognition as the creative mastermind behind big-hitting campaigns like ‘Social Distancing Teapot’, where the cheeky ad put a comical spin on how office workers might tackle a proper tea round under social distancing rules.

He also worked on the roll-out of a ‘Tea-moji’ to get the nation talking on National Tea Day and simple but straight-talking campaigns such as the recent brand recognition advert in Australia.

Ratcliffe also landed the coveted Marketer of the Year Award at the 2022 Prolific North Marketing Awards, and his new employers will doubtless be hoping he hits the ground running in time to repeat the achievement at the 2023 awards, which take place in October.

SALT is the brewer behind favourites including Jute Session IPA and Ratcliffe’s preference Citra Neipa Jnr. It also operates 10 bars across Leeds, Sheffield, Wetherby and London.
