Legendary Private Eye cartoonist Tony Husband is to launch his new exhibition at The Edge Theatre & Arts Centre in Chorlton, Manchester as part of the Chorlton Arts Festival.

Work from Husband’s decades’ worth of contributions to the satirical magazine will be on display in the foyer of the venue from Thu 25 May May – Sat 9 Sep, with a private view taking place on opening night from 6.30pm-9pm.

Husband has been a regular in the magazine since 1985 when his strip The Yobs caught the eye of editor Ian Hislop. Hislop offered Husband a short run, and The Yobs continues to this day.

He first began his career as a cartoonist in the 1970s and has won several awards for his work, including the Cartoonist of the Year award in 1994 and 1997. He has also contributed to publications including The Spectator, The Times, Punch and The Guardian outside his Privaye Eye work.

The Blackpool native, who is now based out of a studio in Hyde, Greater Manchester, has variously been described over the years as “the Keith Richards of cartooning” (The Times), “one of Britain’s most talented and inventive cartoonists,” (The Independent) and “a true original” (The Guardian).

All of Tony’s cartoons will be for sale throughout the exhibition, and there will also be an opportunity to buy some of his books on the opening night, which he will be happy to sign.
