Macclesfield’s Nexer Digital has welcomed eight new starters to its team as part of its on-going commitment to delivering on its social values, and creating a more diverse and inclusive workforce.

The new hires join Nexer’s user research and service design teams. The teams work with clients in health, education, manufacturing, the public sector, and with charities to design end-to-end services that are grounded in a deep understanding of user needs and behaviours.

Nexer Digital partnered with Diverse & Equal, a tech for good organisation working with people from diverse, under-represented backgrounds to help them build skills and find roles in tech. The pair have developed a partnership for over a year as part of a continuing journey to tackle inequality in tech and digital.

Together, Diverse & Equal and Nexer delivered a 12-week, agile bootcamp with workshops, hands-on training and mentoring covering techniques, ways of working and processes involved in delivering digital products and services, particularly in the public sector. It included theory and practice in user research, UX design, service design, content design, business analysis and delivery management.

At the end of the process Nexer Digital welcomed the successful eight new hires to user research and service design roles. The growing Nexer Digital team now has a headcount of over 100 people.

Hilary Stephenson, managing director at Nexer Digital, commented: “It’s incredibly important that the teams building digital services reflect the breadth of people who will actually use them. Everyone interacts with technology in a different way so it’s vital that the broadest range of experiences are fed into the design process.

“We have an on-going commitment to tackling inequality and creating a more diverse and inclusive workforce at Nexer Digital, and across the design and technology sector, as well as with the clients we work with. The partnership with Diverse & Equal has allowed us to bring eight career switchers from under-represented backgrounds into our industry.”
