Former Telegraph editor lands TalkTalk comms chief role

James Quinn

TalkTalk Group has appointed James Quinn as its new director of communications.

Following a long-standing career in business journalism, including as group business editor of the Daily Telegraph, and five years in senior communications roles, Quinn has joined TalkTalk to lead corporate and financial communications, campaigns, PR, and social media at the Salford HQ’d firm.

Quinn, who has held senior communications roles at Credit Suisse and Barclays, will play a key role in accelerating corporate communications around TalkTalk’s full fibre rollout, as well as leading on strategic and executive communications.

He will report to the director of corporate and regulatory affairs Lucy Thomas, who recently joined the group’s executive committee. Quinn succeeds Dominic Laurie, who had held the role since 2020.

TalkTalk recently announced that a new CFO, James Smith, will join the business this month after nine years as CFO at the FTSE 250 listed Capricorn Energy. He has extensive experience in equity and debt financing, and in leading merger and acquisition transactions in regulated and infrastructure-led industries.

Lucy Thomas, director of corporate and regulatory affairs, said: “James brings with him a wealth of communications experience and journalistic nous, with a range of expertise. Our dynamic corporate affairs team are looking forward to James’s new perspective and ideas to strengthen and reinforce our campaigns, as we work together through this critical and exciting time in the telecoms sector.”

Quinn added: “I’ve long admired TalkTalk’s challenger spirit, and so am delighted to be joining the company in its 20th anniversary year. This is a key moment for the telecoms industry, in terms of delivering enhanced connectivity to the nation through full fibre rollout, and I look forward to crafting TalkTalk’s story as part of that.”
