Manchester Metropolitan University and software firm Aucoda are teaming up to support students looking to become software developers.
Building on the success of the recently concluded Graduates for a Greater Manchester project, the new partnership will equip students with the technical skills they need to enter the digital workforce, and help Greater Manchester’s thriving technology sector continue to grow.
Aucoda is the creator of programming language Au, and is launching Au for Universities to help develop digital skills and give young people more opportunity to access a career in software development.
Au for Universities gives students the chance to add a digital strand to their course. It provides a complete learning environment for any student to become a software developer and build a portfolio. This gives them “something to talk about at interview” and improves their chances of getting a job.
Au claims to be easier and quicker to learn than other languages, and is therefore an ideal starting point for would-be developers.
The partnership is evidence of Manchester Met’s continued efforts to support students into graduate careers as well as providing the local economy with a pipeline of talent to fill recruitment needs. Utilising Manchester Met’s award-winning Rise programme, students from across the University are being given the confidence to explore careers in digital.
Dr Raj Curwen, inventor, founder & CEO, Aucoda, said: “As the global shortage of software developers and digital skills grows, it is now more important than ever that we encourage, and support young people to choose coding as a future career.
We are proud, and delighted to partner with Manchester Met, and their highly successful Rise Program. Together we look forward to a long, and successful relationship, providing the Au learning program to 1000’s of current and future students at Manchester Met.”
Adam Hugill, externally engaged curriculum manager at Manchester Met, added: “It’s been a pleasure to work with Aucoda on the launch of this new programme. We’re really excited to see it in action and see our students gain these vital skills.
Digital Skills are important to our students and this programme will give them a chance to get unrivalled support through a co-curricular activity. The students will not only upskill but be supported in demonstrating these skills to prospective employers”
